Region 10 housing backlog to be cleared by end of 2027 – Jagdeo

Vice President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo has assured residents of Region 10 that the longstanding housing backlog left by the APNU+AFC regime will be cleared by the end of 2027.

Speaking during his public day outreach at the Watooka Guest House on Tuesday, where he was joined by several Cabinet ministers, the Vice President said approximately 3,000 outstanding housing applications are expected to be addressed within the next year.

The Vice President explained that the Ministry of Housing is now in a stronger position to move ahead with allocations after receiving several parcels of land from the National Industrial and Commercial Investments Limited (NICIL).

“NICIL has transferred a number of areas for them (the Ministry of Housing) to regularise and we are working to clear the backlog by the end of next year,” Dr Jagdeo said.

The Vice President emphasised that expanding access to house lots remains a key priority of the government, noting that home ownership is one of the most effective ways of creating long-term wealth for Guyanese families.

He also committed to ensuring that around 1,000 residents who are without land titles receive the documentation needed to secure legal ownership of their properties.
