Over 1,200 Guyanese using gov’t app to access jobs

With Guyana’s rapid pace of development driving an increased demand for labour, the government has responded with a mobile application that connects skilled Guyanese with employment opportunities.

During his appearance on the Starting Point Podcast, Minister of Public Service, Government Efficiency and Implementation, Zulfikar Ally, said the Skills Connect app has received considerable response, with over 1200 Guyanese using the platform.

“This app is connecting job seekers with job providers, especially people who are farmers, painters, electricians and others who have a skill,” said the minister.

He further explained that if someone living in Georgetown needs an electrician, the app can be used to find professionals in the area. Minister Ally said he intends to take the app to the next level by arming it with draft contracts.

This, he said, will ensure all parties have written proof of agreed prices, scope of work and payment periods. With this added layer of protection, he said it will help strengthen the Guyanese culture of doing business.
