Next 5 years will see “aggressive, transformative” agenda for social development- President Ali

While the 13th Parliament was convened on Monday without the customary feature address by President, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, the Guyanese leader has assured citizens that his presentation is forthcoming and it will outline his government’s “aggressive” and “transformative” agenda for social development.

Speaking with career journalist and the host of the Starting Point Podcast, Fareeza Haniff, the Head of State congratulated all the Members of Parliament who took the Oath of Office, adding that he expects to see robust debates based on facts.

The President also used the opportunity to provide forward-looking statements on the next five years under his leadership. In this regard, he noted there will be massive infrastructure that will underpin the growth and expansion of the economy.

“[It will be] infrastructure leading to the opening up of new opportunities, new lands, expanded social programmes, and of course, defining a path in the next five years that will lead to resilient and sustainable development,” said President Ali.

He reminded that there are clear targets enshrined in his party’s 2025 manifesto. The Guyanese leader said an actionable agenda will be presented soon on how the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) will achieve these targets, thereby accelerating gains in the areas of housing, education, health, financial reform and wealth creation for citizens.

Other key benchmarks, he said, entail achieving world-class health care and education services, the creation of employment opportunities and new industries, and the diversification of the economy.

He noted that the policies and programmes which will be taken to Parliament will target these outcomes and much more.
