Finance Minister, Dr Ashni Singh, arrives at the ACCC to deliver his 2026 budget speech

Guyana records strong economic growth in 2025

Guyana’s economy is estimated to have recorded significant growth in 2025, reflecting the impact of a robust policy framework despite ongoing global economic challenges.

This is according to Finance Minister, Dr Ashni Singh, who on Monday, presented the country’s 2026 budget under the theme, “Putting People First.”

In his budget speech, Dr Singh revealed that overall real gross domestic product (GDP) is projected to have expanded by 19.3 per cent during the year. Growth was not limited to the oil and gas industry, as the non-oil real GDP is estimated to have increased by 14.3 per cent, highlighting broad-based economic expansion, the finance minister said.

Economic growth in 2025 continued to be supported by strong performance in the oil and gas sector, alongside sustained expansion across several non-oil industries. Key contributors to non-oil growth included agriculture, mining, construction, and services, which remained resilient and continued to drive economic activity.

According to the finance minister, these results underscore the economy’s capacity to maintain strong and steady growth even in a challenging global environment, supported by consistent policy measures and diversified sectoral performance.
