Attorney-at-law Kashir Khan has written to Leader of the Opposition Azruddin Mohamed on behalf of his client, Mohamed Aqtar Ali, demanding the withdrawal of several statements made about Ali in a video published on the Team Mohamed’s Facebook page on August 17, 2026.
The attorney contends that the statements, which concerned Ali’s alleged connections to Sigma Engineers Ltd, government contracts, land and his purported presence at State House, are “untrue, reckless” and defamatory. The letter states that Ali is neither a director nor shareholder of any of the companies referenced in the video and has never held either position.
According to Khan, the video had amassed more than 384,000 views and over 1,600 comments by the time the letter was prepared. The attorney warned that unless the allegations are withdrawn “in the appropriate manner,” Ali intends to pursue legal action to protect his reputation.
The full letter follows below:

Dear Sir
I am writing on the instructions of my client Mohamed Aqtar Ali of 28 Seaspray, Leonora, West Coast Demerara. I am instructed that on or at around 6.00 hrs. on August 17th, 2026, a video clip was uploaded to the Team Mohamed Facebook account in the course of which you made a number of statements and assertions intended to impugn the character and integrity of my client.
From the onset, it was made very clear you were specifically targeting my client when you stated:
“We are talking about the brother of the President of Guyana, President Irfaan Ali’s brother, Mohamed Aqtar Ali. And we are putting the facts, the dates, the contracts and the documents before the Guyanese people.”
In the course of what followed, you made the following specific references to my client viz:
(i) “Sigma Engineers Limited was incorporated on October 6, 2022. This is Aqtar’s company being fronted for him by his close friend, Taamjeed Rahmaan, a Bangladeshi Canadian. Mohamed Aqtar Ali’s name is on the financials for Sigma.”
(ii) “Rahmaan and Aqtar knew each other from the same masjid in Canada, so he brought his friends in to help him rob taxpayers.”
(iii) “And then there is the issue of Aqtar Ali’s presence at the State House. We are informed that the president’s brother is living at the State House and operating with a level of access and influence that has raised serious concerns among persons working there. The staff is asking how many presidents this country really has?”
(iv) “They are struggling to find land, but when the President’s brother needs space for his company to build a bond, community land suddenly becomes available.”
To date, the video clip has been viewed more than 384,000 times and has resulted in over 1,600 comments, many of which are negative. It has also been the subject of reports in the press.
I am instructed that all of the aforementioned statements as it relates directly to my client are untrue, reckless and cannot be supported by any cogent and proper evidence and my client rejects them as being as such.
The entire tone and tenor of the video clip and in particular the aforementioned excerpts was intended to malign and impugn the character, honesty and integrity of my client and was calculated to create a false and misleading impression in the minds of right-thinking members of the Guyanese society of him and even further afield and has, in fact, already done so, given the negative comments about my client online. For the record, my client is not a director or shareholder in any of the companies referenced in the video clip, nor has he ever been.
In particular, the allegation that my client intends to “rob taxpayers” is especially egregious. Nothing could be further from the truth. My client asserts that your statements about him in the video clip are calumnious, unsubstantiated and defamatory in their entirety.
I am further instructed to state that any repetition or further publication of these statements, whether electronically or otherwise, to third parties – and the resulting responses online or elsewhere – only amplifies the defamatory nature of the utterances made in the video clip. These baseless allegations must be withdrawn forthwith in the appropriate manner, failing which my client will take legal action as may be advised to protect his reputation, without further notice.
