Education Minister takes up chairmanship of COHSOD

Guyana’s Minister of Education, Sonia Parag, on Wednesday held her first in-person meeting as chair of the Council for Human and Social Development (Education), commonly known as COHSOD.

COHSOD brings together CARICOM ministers and officials responsible for different areas of human and social development. It also provides a regional forum where CARICOM countries coordinate policies, develop common approaches and make decisions on social issues affecting Caribbean citizens.

It was earlier this year that Parag was named chair, taking over from Grenada’s Minister of Education, David Andrew. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 52nd COHSOD meeting on Wednesday at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, Parag said, “As I take up the ‘chairwomanship’ of this very important body, I wish to commit to each of you my unwavering support, my steadfast commitment, and my intention to work hard and build upon the legacy of this body.”

The two-day meeting was attended by about 10 Education Ministers from CARICOM States. It was held under the theme, “Educating for Life, Purpose, and Caribbean Progress”.
