Whether it is applying for a firearm licence or meeting with government personnel, citizens can skip long lines by using a mobile application to schedule their appointments.
According to Minister of Public Service, Government Efficiency and Implementation, Zulfikar Ally, this app ensures that citizens are able to save on their productive hours and receive targeted support for their needs. During an appearance on the Starting Point Podcast, Ally said the app is popular among young Guyanese.
“While we expected that to happen, we want to move to a system where all Guyanese will be using it,” said the minister.
He noted that the app is just part of his broader strategy to change the culture around public service delivery. The minister said all agencies should have a designated waiting area that is air-conditioned, offering interesting reading materials and refreshments.
“It must be a full-service-oriented reception for our citizens. President Irfaan Ali, in the first meeting I had with him, said we have to ensure that every citizen is treated with dignity when they walk into a public building,” said Ally. He said this welcoming culture must be felt from the security guard to the receptionist.
GovConnect currently offers services from six ministries. These are the Ministry of Public Service, Government Efficiency and Implementation; the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Labour, Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development and the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security.
Ally said more services from all of the ministries will be available on the app soon.
