A total of $7.5 billion has been allocated in Budget 2026 to support the development of Amerindian communities across Guyana, according to Minister of Finance, Dr Ashni Singh, who presented the 2026 National Budget to the National Assembly on Monday.
Dr Singh noted that the allocation will advance initiatives aimed at empowering villages to lead their own development, strengthen local economies, ensure food security, build human capacity and improve social services.
Key programmes include the Amerindian Land Titling (ALT) initiative, the Community Support Officers (CSO) programme, investments in education, health, and infrastructure, and support for cultural heritage celebrations.
In 2025, Certificates of Titles were issued to seven villages, benefitting over 5,500 individuals, while more than 2,700 people received training and employment through the CSO programme.
Scholarships under the Hinterland Scholarship Programme and GOAL enabled hundreds of students to access quality education, supported by solar and ICT investments in hinterland communities.
The 2026 allocation will continue these efforts, including funding for land titling, community-driven infrastructure, and education, ensuring Amerindian communities have the resources to sustainably develop and preserve their cultural heritage.
